If you are interested in animation and are aged 15-19, the Foundation Academy for Animation is offering a free introductory summer programme in hand-drawn animation at the Nerve Centre, Derry/Londonderry in early August.
The 3 day introductory programme will take place from Thursday 4th to Saturday 6th August and the tutors will be Nerve Centre animators John McCloskey and Deirdre Gribbin. John McCloskey is the three time winner of the Award for Best Animation at the Celtic Media Festival for his iconic films, Midnight Dance, The King’s Wake and The Poor Mouth http://www.johnmccloskey.ie. Deirdre Gribbin has been an animator for over twenty years and is a member of the Nerve Centre’s education team.
The programme will focus on hand-drawn animation and provide an opportunity to learn practical skills developing an original animated character and bringing the character to life through movement. Participants will learn about the 12 principles of animation and apply this knowledge to animate their character.
Upon completion of the 3 day programme, participants will have a further opportunity to gain hands-on experience of the animation industry by applying for a place on the Foundation Academy for Animation. Designed by industry professionals for young people interested in a career in Northern Ireland’s expanding animation industry, the Foundation Academy begins in the autumn and covers all of the key animation job roles, including storyboarding, character design and rigging. The academy tutors and mentors are currently working in the animation industry in Northern Ireland.
The Foundation Academy for Animation is one of several Northern Ireland Screen Academies delivered by the Nerve Centre and funded by the Department of Communities through Northern Ireland Screen.
